Lufthansa Group Preparing Gradual Return To Tel Aviv
Lufthansa Group airlines are preparing to gradually resume flights to and from Tel Aviv beginning in June as carriers continue reassessing operations across the Middle East.
The group confirmed that Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo will restart services to the Israeli city during the first phase of the reopening plan.
The announcement comes after months of widespread disruption across regional air travel caused by heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
ITA Airways Targets July Restart
Italian carrier ITA Airways, which is part of Lufthansa Group, said it plans to resume suspended flights from Italy to Tel Aviv and Riyadh starting in July following additional safety assessments.
However, the airline also confirmed that flights to Dubai will remain suspended until September 13.
Lufthansa and Swiss, both part of the Lufthansa Group, are also extending the suspension of Dubai flights until the same date due to what the company described as operational reasons.
Middle East Suspensions Have Cost Airlines Millions
ITA Airways chief executive Joerg Eberhart previously said the airline expects losses linked to suspended flights to Dubai, Riyadh and Tel Aviv to reach around 10 million euros by the end of the year.
According to Eberhart, the airline is still evaluating whether it should fully resume operations to Dubai, where competition from Emirates remains particularly strong.
Regional Tensions Continue To Impact Aviation
Numerous international airlines have suspended or reduced flights to Middle Eastern destinations in recent months due to escalating security concerns and operational uncertainty across the region.
Carriers have been forced to repeatedly adjust schedules, reroute flights and reassess network plans as the aviation industry responds to changing geopolitical conditions.
The gradual restoration of Tel Aviv flights by Lufthansa Group signals cautious optimism within the industry, although airlines continue to monitor the regional situation closely before restoring full operations.
