Lufthansa Technik Expands In Philippines With Major New Aircraft Maintenance Hub

Lufthansa Technik Philippines has announced a major expansion of its operations with the construction of a new aircraft maintenance facility at Clark International Airport, significantly strengthening its position in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.

The project, unveiled during the state visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the Philippines, represents one of the largest recent aviation investments in the country. Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and President Steinmeier both highlighted the development as a significant milestone in economic cooperation between Germany and the Philippines.

The new facility will support growing demand for aircraft maintenance services across Asia-Pacific while reinforcing the Philippines’ role as a key aviation services hub.

Major Investment To Create 1,200 Skilled Jobs

The new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center will occupy approximately 157,000 square meters at Clark International Airport and is expected to create around 1,200 highly skilled jobs over the coming years.

Lufthansa Technik described the project as a three-digit million-dollar investment that will significantly increase the company’s maintenance capacity in the region. Initial operations are scheduled to begin in 2028.

The development will become Lufthansa Technik’s second major location in the Philippines, complementing its long-established operation at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, where the company has maintained a presence for more than 25 years.

Capacity For Nine Widebody Aircraft

Once fully developed, the Clark facility will provide capacity for up to nine widebody aircraft maintenance bays, allowing Lufthansa Technik to expand support for airline customers across Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

The company plans to use the site to meet increasing demand for maintenance services as global airlines continue to expand their fleets and restore international capacity.

Together, the Manila and Clark facilities will form a major widebody aircraft maintenance hub within Lufthansa Technik’s global network.

Expanded Aircraft Portfolio Includes Boeing 787

Lufthansa Technik Philippines currently serves as the company’s competence center for widebody aircraft maintenance, specializing in Airbus A330, A340, A350 and A380 aircraft, as well as the Boeing 777.

The addition of the Clark facility will broaden that portfolio by introducing support for the Boeing 787, one of the world’s most widely used long-haul aircraft types.

The expanded capabilities will allow the company to serve a wider range of airline customers while strengthening its position in the competitive global MRO sector.

Strategic Importance Of The Asia-Pacific Market

Lufthansa Technik executives described the expansion as a key component of the company’s long-term growth strategy. Asia-Pacific remains one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, driven by increasing passenger demand, fleet expansion and rising air travel across the region.

By expanding its footprint in the Philippines, Lufthansa Technik aims to position itself closer to airline customers while increasing capacity to support future growth in aircraft maintenance demand.

The project also highlights the Philippines’ growing attractiveness as a destination for high-value aerospace investments thanks to its skilled workforce, strategic location and established aviation industry.

New Chapter For Lufthansa Technik Philippines

The Clark development marks a significant new phase for Lufthansa Technik Philippines, creating a dual-site operation capable of supporting some of the world’s largest commercial aircraft fleets.

As airlines continue investing in new-generation aircraft and expanding international networks, demand for advanced maintenance facilities is expected to remain strong. With operations in both Manila and Clark, Lufthansa Technik is positioning itself to play a leading role in servicing that demand across the Asia-Pacific region for decades to come.
