Deutsche Bahn Unveils €99 Family Train Offer For Summer Holidays

Deutsche Bahn has announced a new summer travel promotion offering families round-trip travel on long-distance trains across Germany for a flat rate of €99.99.

The special seasonal offer will run from late June through mid-September, covering the main school holiday period across all German states.

Seat reservations will be included in the ticket price, and bookings are expected to open in mid-June.

Affordable Alternative During Uncertain Travel Costs

Deutsche Bahn says the initiative is designed to provide families with greater financial certainty at a time of fluctuating fuel and airfare prices.

DB chief executive Evelyn Palla said reliable and affordable travel options are especially important during periods of economic uncertainty.

She stated that the company wants to ensure family summer holidays remain accessible despite rising travel costs.

Cheaper Than Driving Across Germany

To highlight the value of the offer, Deutsche Bahn compared the ticket price with current fuel costs for long-distance car travel.

According to the railway operator, driving a family car from Hamburg to Munich currently costs more than €200 in fuel alone, more than double the price of the new family rail offer.

Ticket Valid For Up To Five Travellers

The special family ticket will apply to bookings for up to five passengers travelling together.

Additional details about conditions and eligible routes are expected to be released by Deutsche Bahn in June.

Under the company’s regular fare structure, children under six years old already travel free of charge.

Children aged up to 14 can also travel free on long-distance trains when accompanied by a passenger aged 15 or older.

Summer Holidays Begin Across Germany In Late June

Germany’s school holiday schedule begins on a staggered basis this year.

The first states to begin summer holidays are Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland on 29 June.

The final state to begin the break is Bavaria, where the holiday season continues until mid-September.

Deutsche Bahn hopes the discounted rail offer will encourage more families to choose train travel during one of the busiest tourism periods of the year.
