Ryanair has reported solid passenger growth in April, underscoring continued demand for short-haul travel across Europe as the summer season approaches.
Ryanair said it carried 19.3 million passengers in April, according to an official statement from the airline. The figure represents a 5% increase compared with the same month last year, reinforcing the strength of the low-cost carrier’s network and pricing model.
Passenger Growth Signals Strong Demand
The latest data suggests Ryanair outperformed its equivalent performance a year earlier, although the airline did not provide a detailed breakdown of routes or regions.
Passenger numbers rose from 18.3 million in April 2025 to 19.3 million in April 2026, while load factor remained stable at 93%. The airline also operated more than 108,000 flights during the month, highlighting the scale of its operations.
Rolling annual figures further reinforce the trend. Ryanair carried 209.3 million passengers over the 12 months to April 2026, up 4% year-on-year, with load factor holding at 94%.
A Key Indicator for the Aviation Industry
As one of Europe’s largest airlines, Ryanair’s monthly traffic figures are closely watched across the travel sector. They provide early insight into booking trends, route performance and broader consumer appetite for flying.
Passenger numbers remain a critical metric for airlines, particularly during periods when demand can shift rapidly due to pricing, capacity adjustments or seasonal travel patterns.
The April figures point to continued resilience in the low-cost segment, where affordability remains a major driver of demand. Budget carriers like Ryanair continue to play a central role in supporting tourism flows, airport traffic and regional connectivity.
