BeOnd Airlines has halted all services across its network, suspending flights between the Maldives, Europe and the Middle East in a move that signals deeper challenges for the premium carrier.

Initially framed as a seasonal pause on European routes, the disruption now appears far more extensive. Flights across the airline’s entire network – including connections via Dubai – are no longer available to book, pointing to a full operational shutdown rather than a temporary adjustment.

Passengers with existing bookings are being contacted within 72 hours and offered a range of options, including fee-free rebooking for winter travel, credit valid for up to 12 months, or full refunds.

However, the situation has raised concern among travellers after the airline quietly removed a previous commitment from its website that guaranteed rebooking in business class on other airlines in the event of disruption. The change has drawn scrutiny, particularly given the premium positioning of the brand.

Launched in 2023, BeOnd Airlines positioned itself as a luxury, all-business-class carrier focused on high-end leisure travel between Europe and the Maldives. Its model relied on a niche but growing segment of travellers willing to pay for comfort and exclusivity on long-haul routes.

Behind the scenes, the economics of that model are becoming increasingly difficult. Rising fuel costs – driven in part by geopolitical tensions – are placing pressure on long-haul operations, particularly for smaller airlines without the scale to absorb volatility.

BeOnd’s limited fleet, consisting of just two aircraft – an Airbus A319 and an Airbus A321 – further constrains flexibility, making it harder to adjust capacity or spread costs across a broader network.

The suspension highlights a wider reality in the aviation sector: while demand for premium travel remains strong, operating a long-haul, boutique airline is highly exposed to cost shocks and operational complexity.
