Dubai Airport Resumes Limited Flights After Drone Strike Sparks Fuel Tank Fire

Flights have resumed in a limited capacity at Dubai International Airport after operations were temporarily suspended following a drone strike that hit a fuel tank near the airport, causing a fire.

Airport authorities halted air traffic on Monday as a precautionary safety measure for passengers and staff after the incident, which officials said involved an Iranian drone striking a fuel reservoir in the vicinity of the airport.

In a statement, the airport confirmed that flights had been paused temporarily while emergency teams responded to the situation and assessed safety conditions. Passengers were advised to check directly with their airlines for updated information regarding departures and arrivals.

The impact triggered a fire near the fuel storage facility, prompting an immediate response from the Dubai Civil Defence. Fire crews were dispatched quickly and began extinguishing the blaze shortly after the incident occurred.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported. Security measures were also implemented around the affected area while emergency services worked to bring the fire under control.

The disruption also affected several flights already en route to Dubai. An aircraft operated by Emirates travelling from Kochi to Dubai was forced to turn back after the airport was closed temporarily.

Operations at the airport have since resumed on a limited basis, although delays are expected as airlines adjust schedules following the disruption.

Dubai is home to one of the world’s busiest international airports, handling tens of millions of passengers annually and serving as the main hub for Emirates.

Airport authorities said further updates will be provided as the situation develops and normal flight operations gradually return.
