Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena has officially begun confirming reservations ahead of its highly anticipated opening this spring, marking a major expansion of the luxury brand’s presence in Colombia.
Located in the vibrant Getsemani neighbourhood, just steps from Cartagena’s historic Walled City and opposite the city’s modern convention centre, the new property combines centuries-old heritage with contemporary design and amenities. The hotel is designed to appeal both to international travellers and local residents seeking a refined urban retreat.
The project brings together a collection of restored historic buildings, including a 16th-century San Francisco cloister and temple, former theatres, and the landmark Club Cartagena dating back to the 1920s. Guests move through restored façades, quiet courtyards and outdoor walkways that open into elegant public spaces, while guest rooms blend Old World character with modern technology.
Design for the hotel was led by celebrated French designer François Catroux, whose work on the property was among his final projects. Known for blending timeless elegance with comfort, Catroux was highly selective in his hospitality commissions, underscoring the significance of the Cartagena development. Architecture and interiors were further shaped by WATG, Wimberly Interiors and AvroKO, with restorations led by Colombian architects and artisans alongside international collaborators.
The hotel features 131 guest rooms and suites, many with private terraces. These include 27 Spanish colonial-style accommodations within the former cloister, as well as contemporary rooms such as the three-bedroom Casa Ambrad suite with its own rooftop plunge pool. Two rooftop pool decks offer panoramic views across Cartagena’s neighbourhoods, harbour and Caribbean sunsets.
Dining plays a central role in the experience, with eight restaurant and bar concepts, including the debut collaboration between Four Seasons and Major Food Group, known for high-profile venues such as Carbone in New York. Guests will also find rooftop bars, casual cafés and intimate late-night venues, complemented by the culinary scene of Getsemani just outside the hotel’s doors.
Wellness facilities include the UMARI Spa with six treatment rooms, a full-service salon and a 24-hour fitness centre. The property also incorporates 15 private luxury residences and extensive event spaces, including two grand ballrooms restored within historic structures.
Four Seasons said the new hotel is designed to serve as a gateway to Cartagena’s culture, offering curated experiences ranging from guided street-art tours in Getsemani to yacht excursions in the Caribbean and private nature encounters outside the city.
The Cartagena opening becomes the brand’s third presence in Colombia, joining two Four Seasons properties in Bogotá, and adds to the company’s growing global collection of historic hotels adapted for modern luxury travel.
