Wizz Air Opens New Base at Warsaw–Modlin with 11 New Routes across Europe

Wizz Air has officially opened its newest operational base at Warsaw–Modlin Airport, strengthening its presence in one of its largest and most strategically important markets. The airline, chosen by 128 million travellers in Poland since 2004, will base two Airbus A321neo aircraft at Modlin and operate 11 new direct routes across Europe. Fares start from EUR 9.99 on selected routes, available via wizzair.com and the mobile app.

The base was inaugurated during a ceremony coinciding with the first departure from Warsaw–Modlin to Barcelona. Representatives of Wizz Air, Warsaw–Modlin Airport and Welcome Airport Services took part in the ribbon-cutting, followed by a press briefing outlining the significance of the new base for the Mazovia region.

Warsaw–Modlin becomes Wizz Air’s sixth Polish base, joining Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Warsaw (Chopin) and Wrocław. Passengers can now fly directly from Modlin to Bergamo, Athens, Barcelona, Bergen, Malta, Sofia, Brindisi, Alghero, Paphos, Palermo and Chișinău — opening new travel opportunities and supporting inbound tourism.

The two A321neo aircraft at the base are among the most fuel-efficient in the world, consuming 20 percent less fuel and generating 50 percent less noise than previous-generation Airbus models. Two-thirds of Wizz Air’s fleet already consists of A321neo aircraft, with an average fleet age just over 4.5 years.

From Modlin alone, Wizz Air will now offer more than 500,000 seats per year and nearly 219 routes across Poland, further consolidating its position as a leading player in the country’s aviation market. The new base creates 80 direct jobs for pilots and cabin crew and supports up to 700 additional positions in tourism and related services.

Since its debut flight from Katowice in 2004, Poland has been central to Wizz Air’s growth story. The airline has carried 128 million passengers to and from the country, supported by long-term investment and network expansion.

Andras Szabo, Network Officer at Wizz Air, described the opening as a milestone for the airline’s Polish operations, enabling it to serve an even greater number of travellers with modern aircraft and competitive fares. Representatives from Warsaw–Modlin Airport emphasised that the new base strengthens the airport’s connectivity, economic impact and long-term development.
