Denmark Closes Aalborg Airport After Drones Detected in Airspace

Authorities in Denmark temporarily closed Aalborg Airport yesterday after drones were spotted in its airspace, marking the second such incident in the country since the start of the week.

The airport confirmed the closure to Reuters but declined to comment on how many drones were involved. Following the detection, all takeoffs and landings were suspended, and police were dispatched to the scene. Due to the disruption, two aircraft were diverted to Copenhagen and one to Karup.

Reports from Danish broadcaster TV2 indicate that drones have also been sighted near several other airports in recent days, including Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup—the latter serving as a key base for Denmark’s F-16 and F-35 fighter jets.

The incident follows a similar disruption on Monday, September 22, when Copenhagen Airport halted all flight operations after two to three large drones were detected around 8:26 p.m. local time.

The repeated sightings have raised concerns over airspace security in Denmark, as investigations continue into the source and intent behind the drone activity.
