Just in time for the festive season, easyJet has announced a brand-new winter route from London Southend Airport to Rovaniemi, the official hometown of Santa Claus in Finnish Lapland. The service begins 1 December 2025 and will operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, throughout the Christmas period.
With this new addition, easyJet now offers more routes to Lapland than any other airline, boasting 18 connections from seven countries, making it easier than ever for families to experience the magic of the Arctic Circle.
“Also known as Lapland and the home of Santa Claus, we know this will be a popular choice for families looking to enjoy a magical Christmas getaway,” said Sophie Dekkers, easyJet’s Chief Commercial Officer.
A Festive Experience Like No Other
Rovaniemi is famed for its Santa Claus Village, where children can meet Santa and his elves, send letters from the Arctic Circle, and enjoy magical winter experiences including:
- Husky sledding through snow-covered forests
- Snowmobile safaris under the Northern Lights
- Reindeer sleigh rides and cozy log cabin stays
Southend’s Growing Winter Network
This latest route follows the recent opening of easyJet’s new base at London Southend, home to three A320neo aircraft and over 1,200 jobs supported across the region. easyJet now operates 23 routes from Southend, connecting millions of travelers in Essex, East Anglia, and beyond to top European and North African destinations.
Nigel Mayes, Business Development Director at London Southend Airport, said:
“Whether you’re travelling to meet Father Christmas or chase the Northern Lights, this new connection offers families and festive travellers an unforgettable experience.”
With a catchment area comparable in size to Switzerland and over 8 million residents within an hour’s reach, Southend continues to position itself as one of the UK’s fastest-growing airports.
