American Airlines Expands Launches New Haiti And Maracaibo Flights

American Airlines is expanding its presence across the Caribbean and Latin America with the launch of a new route to Venezuela and the restoration of flights to Haiti, bringing the carrier’s regional network to 100 destinations across Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.

The airline will begin daily nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Maracaibo, Venezuela’s second-largest city, on July 14. The route will be operated by Embraer E175 aircraft and will complement American’s existing twice-daily service between Miami and Caracas, which resumed in April after a seven-year suspension.

Second Venezuela destination

The new Maracaibo route will make American Airlines the only carrier offering nonstop flights between the United States and the western Venezuelan city. The launch comes just months after the airline restored service to Caracas following the lifting of restrictions that had prevented U.S. carriers from operating flights to Venezuela since 2019.

American previously served Venezuela for more than three decades and was the country’s largest U.S. airline before suspending operations amid political and security concerns.

Return to Haiti after two-year suspension

On November 1, American Airlines will also resume flights to Haiti, becoming the first U.S. carrier to announce a return to the country following the suspension of services in late 2024. The airline will operate daily Boeing 737 flights between Miami and Cap-Haïtien on Haiti’s northern coast.

Flights to Haiti were halted after several commercial aircraft were struck by gunfire near Port-au-Prince, prompting the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to impose restrictions on operations in the country. While flights to the Haitian capital remain prohibited, the FAA has permitted services to several other airports, including Cap-Haïtien.

American said the route will reconnect South Florida’s large Haitian-American community with northern Haiti while also providing convenient one-stop connections for travellers from cities such as New York and Orlando.

Miami strengthens role as regional gateway

The two new routes further reinforce Miami’s position as American Airlines’ largest gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. With the additions of Maracaibo and Cap-Haïtien, the airline’s network across the region will reach 100 destinations, underscoring continued demand for travel between the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America.

American Airlines currently operates more flights between the United States and Latin America than any other U.S. carrier and continues to expand its footprint in key markets where demand is recovering or underserved.
