Mannheim City Air, a new regional airline in Europe, officially launched its flight operations on April 18, 2025. The airline is based at Mannheim City Airport (MHG) in Germany and aims to improve air travel between smaller cities and popular destinations in the region.
Founded in December 2024, Mannheim City Air wants to make flying easier and faster for people who would normally take long train or car rides. The airline believes that short flights between nearby cities can save time and offer more comfort for passengers.
To prepare for takeoff, Mannheim City Air teamed up with Ink Innovation, a company known for its airline technology. Ink provided its Departure Control System (Ink DCS), which helps airlines manage check-in and boarding. This system is now being used at the airline’s first three airports: Mannheim City Airport, Sylt Airport (GWT) in northern Germany, and Marina di Campo Airport (EBA) on Elba, a small island in Italy.
The partnership with Ink shows that the airline is serious about using smart technology from the start. The system helps the airline run smoothly and gives passengers a better experience at the airport.
Axel Reissmann, Managing Director of Mannheim City Air, said that working with Ink was a clear choice. “Only four days elapsed between the signing of the contract and the go-live,” he noted, thanking Ink for their fast and professional support.
Janet Richards, Chief Commercial Officer of Ink, said the company enjoys working with new airlines. She praised Mannheim City Air for its fresh energy and new ideas, which she said match well with Ink’s own values.
Ink has helped other start-up airlines like Lift, Bermudair, and Marabu Airlines get started quickly and smoothly. Their experience with fast setups made them a strong partner for Mannheim City Air.
The new airline wants to keep growing by offering fast, easy flights between smaller cities and tourist spots. The first routes already show this goal in action, connecting city centers and holiday destinations that are hard to reach by car or train.
With its focus on smooth airport experiences, smart technology, and fast connections, Mannheim City Air hopes to fill a gap in Europe’s air travel market. While it is still new, its quick setup and strong partnerships show that it is ready to grow and connect more parts of Europe in the future.
