Russian and Myanmar airlines have reached an agreement to launch direct flights from Moscow to Myanmar in 2025, Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe announced. The necessary approvals for flights to the Russian capital have already been obtained.
“I believe we will try to start this year. We would like to extend direct flights to Moscow. We are working to establish contact with key figures in tourism and other business sectors. I think we have a real opportunity for direct flights to Moscow. In fact, airlines have already agreed on this, and we also have an aviation agreement with Moscow,” said Than Swe.
Growing Air Connectivity Between Russia and Myanmar
Since 2023, there has been a direct air route between Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, and Novosibirsk, marking an important step in strengthening aviation ties between the two countries.
The announcement comes amid deepening diplomatic relations between Russia and Myanmar. In early March, Myanmar’s Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing visited Russia for the 11th time, meeting with President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on March 4.
The launch of direct Moscow-Myanmar flights is expected to boost tourism, business ties, and overall bilateral cooperation. Further details on routes, schedules, and airline partners are anticipated in the coming months.
