Auberge Resorts Collection Debuts Collegio alla Querce in Florence, Italy

Auberge Resorts Collection has announced the opening of Collegio alla Querce, Auberge Resorts Collection, its first Italian property. Nestled on a hillside in Florence, the meticulously restored 16th-century estate offers an elegant blend of history, culture, and modern luxury, providing guests with a tranquil urban retreat overlooking the city’s UNESCO-listed Centro Storico.

A Renaissance Landmark Reimagined

Named for the centuries-old oaks that shade its tiered gardens, Collegio alla Querce was a center for learning for over 100 years. Since 1868, it has welcomed generations of Italy’s brightest scholars. The transformation of this historic site into a contemporary 83-room luxury hotel was led by Esteva i Esteva, an acclaimed Spanish father-son architectural firm, while Florentine interior designers ArchFlorence infused the property with timeless Italian elegance.

“We are delighted to expand our brand presence in Europe with the debut of Collegio alla Querce, our first property in Italy,” said Christian Clerc, President and CEO, Auberge Resorts Collection. “Florence is one of Europe’s most historic and treasured cities, and Collegio alla Querce is the perfect addition to our portfolio. We look forward to welcoming guests to this extraordinary property, where they can experience the best of Tuscan culture, gastronomy, and Auberge’s singular hospitality.”

An Architectural and Design Masterpiece

With 49 guest rooms, 28 suites, and six grand suites, Collegio alla Querce offers a refined blend of old-world grandeur and modern comfort. Each space showcases restored frescoes, coffered wood ceilings, and curated Italian furnishings, creating an intimate yet opulent retreat. The hotel’s signature accommodation, Residenza la Quercia, is a 2,292-square-foot private residence featuring two living rooms, two bathrooms, a rooftop terrace, and a private hot tub—all offering breathtaking views of Florence’s Duomo and the rolling Tuscan hills.

A Culinary Destination Rooted in Tuscan Traditions

Florence’s reputation as a culinary capital is reflected in Collegio alla Querce’s four distinct dining venues, offering a fresh take on Tuscan traditions:

  • La Gamella – The hotel’s destination restaurant, featuring an open Cicchetti kitchen, where guests can experience chef-led masterclasses and intimate dining experiences.
  • The Conservatorio – A sunlit atrium offering seasonal fare, handcrafted pastries, and fine wines throughout the day.
  • Café Focolare – A poolside retreat serving wood-fired pizzas, artisanal pastas, and Florence’s iconic panini.
  • Bar Bertelli – A cigar lounge and cocktail bar, housed in the former headmaster’s office, where mixology meets history with cocktails inspired by Renaissance-era exploration.

A Sanctuary for Wellness & Rejuvenation

The Aelia Spa, in partnership with Furtuna Skin, offers luxurious wellness treatments inspired by Tuscany’s natural bounty. The spa features:

  • Olive oil-infused therapies and Tuscan herbal treatments.
  • Private steam showers and a secluded pool for relaxation.
  • Sound baths, botanical-infused bathing rituals, and personalized wellness experiences.

Exclusive Experiences for Cultural Immersion

Beyond the hotel, Collegio alla Querce curates immersive experiences to unveil Florence’s hidden gems:

  • Private after-hours tours of the Accademia Gallery and Duomo.
  • Bespoke perfume-making workshops at Daniele Cavalli’s Casa Profumoir.
  • Hands-on cooking classes with local chefs, including a communal butchery experience with the legendary Dario Cecchini.
  • Live performances by the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and the Fondazione Mascarade Opera in the hotel’s historic theater.

A Timeless Setting for Celebrations

With breathtaking views of Florence, meticulously restored historic spaces, and lush Medici-style gardens, Collegio alla Querce is an ideal venue for luxury events and weddings. Signature event spaces include:

  • La Cappella – A restored chapel for intimate ceremonies.
  • Il Teatro – A historic theater with an opulent stage and wraparound balcony for grand receptions.
  • Terrazza dell’Arco – An outdoor lawn perfect for wedding celebrations and social gatherings.

A New Chapter for Auberge Resorts in Europe

Collegio alla Querce marks a major expansion for Auberge Resorts Collection in Europe, joining The Woodward in Geneva, Domaine des Etangs in France, and Grace Hotel in Santorini. The brand’s European growth will continue with the opening of Cambridge House in London in late 2025.

“Collegio alla Querce is a remarkable addition to Florence,” said Lorenzo Maraviglia, General Manager. “We look forward to welcoming travelers to experience this extraordinary retreat where history, culture, and luxury intertwine.”

With a storied past, refined design, and immersive cultural offerings, Collegio alla Querce redefines the luxury experience in Florence, offering a sanctuary for travelers seeking both tranquility and adventure.
