Puglia Gets Its First Direct U.S. Flights via NEOS

For the first time ever, travelers from the United States will be able to fly nonstop to Puglia, one of Italy’s most enchanting regions. NEOS Airlines has announced the launch of direct flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Bari, the capital of Puglia, marking a historic milestone for connectivity between North America and southern Italy.

Starting in 2025, these seasonal flights will operate through October 15, utilizing Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The aircraft, configured with 355 seats across Premium and Economy classes, will depart JFK every Tuesday at 4 p.m. and arrive in Bari at 8 a.m. the next morning. Return flights will leave Bari at 11:30 a.m., landing in New York at 1:50 p.m.

Bari will be NEOS’ third Italian destination from New York, joining Milan and Palermo. The airline, a subsidiary of Alpitour World, has been steadily expanding its North American network since launching operations in 2021.

Officials in Puglia are celebrating the new route as a transformative step for the region’s tourism and economic growth. “The announcement of the Bari-New York direct flight is the crowning achievement of an extraordinary year for the airports of Puglia,” said Antonio Maria Vasile, President of Aeroporti di Puglia. The direct connection, he emphasized, is a strategic move to further integrate Puglia into the global travel landscape.

With its stunning Adriatic coastline, charming whitewashed villages, and rich culinary heritage, Puglia has become an increasingly sought-after destination for American travelers. Many visitors are drawn to the region’s deep historical roots, often tracing family ancestry back to southern Italy. “New York-Bari is much more than an air link,” said Michele Emiliano, President of the Puglia Region. “It is an embrace between Puglia and the world, a bridge that unites traditions, affection, heritage, and opportunity.”

Tourism officials also view the U.S. market as a major growth opportunity. “These flights are a response to our belief that the United States is one of the most promising tourism sources for Puglia,” said Aldo Patruno, Director of Puglia’s Tourism Department. He noted that American visitors tend to be high-spending travelers with a growing interest in Puglia’s unique culture, cuisine, and historical sites.

With over 10 million passengers passing through Puglia’s airports in 2024, the region is poised to welcome even more international visitors. Thanks to NEOS, getting there from the United States has never been easier.
