Turkish Airlines resuming flights to Benghazi, Libya, marking a significant milestone in reestablishing connections between the two nations. The announcement was made Tuesday by Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
Highlighting historical ties between Libya and Türkiye, the minister said that THY will now operate three weekly flights to Benghazi.
Turkish Airlines first began operating flights to Benghazi on May 5, 2009, offering regular services to the Libyan city. However, flights were suspended on January 5, 2015, due to security concerns stemming from the region’s instability. Now, after a decade-long hiatus, the national carrier has returned to Benghazi, underscoring Türkiye’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Libya.
