Hungary Airlines has officially assumed the operation of the state-owned Airbus A330F cargo aircraft, marking a significant step in the airline’s development. As of late November 2024, the state-owned Air Hungary became a shareholder in the company, further solidifying its position in the aviation market.
The evolution of Hungary Airlines has been closely watched since reports of a new Hungarian airline first surfaced in the spring of 2024. Initially known as Universal Translink Airline Hungary, and later briefly as Hungary Cargo Airlines, the company rebranded in April 2024, adopting its current name. This rebranding was accompanied by active recruitment and the development of a corporate identity. However, the airline’s website is no longer accessible, raising questions about its public-facing operations.
Founded in 2021, Hungary Airlines has played a crucial role in facilitating air cargo transport between China and Hungary. The company operated flights from Chinese cities such as Changzhou and Hangzhou to Budapest using the state-owned Airbus A330F aircraft, which Wizz Air had previously managed. In addition to the A330F, several aircraft leased from other airlines continue to service the China-Hungary route on behalf of Hungary Airlines.
