Passenger Stops Attempted Hijacking on Mexican Low-Cost Flight

An incident happend aboard a Volaris Airbus A320 (N526VL) when a passenger attempted to hijack the aircraft en route from León to Tijuana. Due to the quick response of fellow passengers and crew, the situation was contained before escalating.

The incident occurred on flight Y4 3041, operated by Mexican low-cost airline Volaris. According to reports, a 31-year-old man traveling with his wife and two children became agitated after receiving a threatening message mid-flight. The message reportedly claimed that a close relative of his had been kidnapped and would be killed if he continued to Tijuana.

In a state of panic, the man attacked a flight attendant and tried to force his way into the cockpit, demanding the flight be redirected to the United States. His actions caused alarm among passengers, who, along with crew members, subdued him and prevented the hijack attempt.

The captain issued an emergency code and decided to make an unscheduled landing at Guadalajara International Airport, where Mexico’s National Guard detained the suspect.

Volaris confirmed the safety of all passengers and crew and expressed gratitude to those on board who acted swiftly to prevent a tragedy. The airline is cooperating fully with authorities as investigations continue.
