Icelandair has announced Istanbul as its newest international destination, marking a significant expansion of its global network. Starting September 5, 2024, the Icelandic carrier will operate four weekly flights between Keflavik International Airport (KEF) and Istanbul Airport (IST), its furthest eastward route to date.
This new service will be operated with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, offering a flight duration of approximately five hours and thirty minutes.
Turkish Airlines Partnership Enhances Connectivity
The route is strategically timed to align with Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network. This partnership, formalized in the summer of 2023, will enable Icelandair passengers to seamlessly connect to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond via Istanbul.
“This new route not only strengthens Icelandair’s network but also provides travelers with unparalleled access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive range of destinations,” said a spokesperson for Icelandair.
Expanding Global Reach
The launch of flights to Istanbul is a key milestone for Icelandair, enhancing connectivity for passengers traveling between Europe, North America, and Asia. Travelers from cities such as Denver, Portland, and Seattle will now have convenient access to Istanbul through Icelandair’s Reykjavik hub, offering more options for long-haul travel.
A Win-Win for Travelers
Icelandair’s expansion into Istanbul reflects its commitment to increasing international reach while providing streamlined travel experiences. The partnership with Turkish Airlines enhances this offering, allowing passengers to enjoy convenient one-stop connections and a greater array of destinations.
