Emirates to Train Cabin Crew in Wine Expertise

Emirates has launched a new training program to educate its cabin crew on wine, offering courses titled “L’art du vin” designed for various skill levels—from introductory sessions to more advanced training for those serving in Business and First Class.

The eight-hour courses are conducted by Emirates’ own wine ambassadors, who are officially certified by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).

The classes take place in a setting designed to resemble a luxury lounge, complete with a horseshoe-shaped bar mimicking the onboard lounge of Emirates’ A380 aircraft. The training environment also features decorative lighting, displays of champagne and wine, glassware, and a collection of books on enology and viticulture. Upon completion, participants receive a special certificate.

Over 1,000 Emirates cabin crew members have already completed the training, and by 2026, the airline aims to train over 22,000 more.

The introductory course, aimed at newly hired cabin crew, covers the basics of winemaking, tasting techniques for white and red wines, and methods of pouring wine.

Business Class crew members will be trained to recognize acidity, dryness, sweetness, and fruitiness in wine, as well as to understand the differences between grape pulp and skin. Students will also learn about the airline’s wine cellar, global wine regions, and the best food and wine pairings.

The First Class course offers an in-depth exploration of Premier and Grand Cru Classe wines, focusing on the Bordeaux 1855 classification and “iconic wines from around the world,” including those from Spain, Italy, and California.

The advanced course delves into the intricacies of Dom Pérignon champagne, Château d’Yquem Sauternes, and aged port wines from renowned houses such as Graham’s, Dow’s, and Sandeman.
