The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India has issued a notification to seven Indian airlines, namely Air India, Indigo, Akasa, SpiceJet, Vistara, Air India Express Connect, and Air India Express, requesting them to take measures to minimize the baggage delivery time for arriving passengers.
According to the document, the first bag should be placed on the baggage conveyor within 10 minutes after the aircraft’s engines are turned off, and the last one should be delivered no later than 30 minutes. The timely baggage delivery process needs to be streamlined within ten days.
These new requirements were introduced after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) conducted an experiment at six Indian airports to track baggage delivery times. The results were deemed unsatisfactory.
As noted by industry experts, in recent years, Indian airlines have faced challenges in adhering to passenger service standards and onboard safety rules.
For example, last year, Air India failed to accommodate passengers due to the delay of their flight and did not provide compensation, which violated existing regulations. Additionally, the carrier was fined for insufficient oxygen reserves on long-haul flights. Customers of Indian airlines also frequently complain about issues in baggage handling organization.
