Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet appears alongside football stars Lamine Yamal and Jude Bellingham in Adidas’ latest World Cup campaign filmed on the streets of Barcelona’s suburb Badalona.
The large-scale production, reportedly costing around $94 million, transformed parts of Llefià in Badalona into a fictional version of downtown New York for the advert.
Barcelona Neighbourhood Becomes Centre Of The Campaign
The campaign centres around the Pista Verde pitch in the middle of the high-rise neighbourhood, where local players are portrayed as an unbeatable side with a 30-year winning streak.
In the advert, Chalamet assembles a star-studded team including Bellingham, Yamal and U.S. women’s football star Trinity Rodman in an attempt to finally defeat the local team.
Football Legends Recreated Through AI
The advert also features AI-generated appearances of football legends including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Alessandro Del Piero.
According to reports, Beckham, Zidane and Lionel Messi received multi-million-dollar fees connected to their participation in the campaign.
Adidas Blends Football, Film And Celebrity Culture
The campaign reflects Adidas’ continued focus on combining sport, entertainment and global celebrity appeal ahead of the World Cup.
By placing Hollywood talent alongside some of football’s most recognisable names, the advert positions Adidas at the centre of a wider cultural moment around the tournament.
