The introduction of a new airport terminal complex in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo) is projected to increase passenger traffic fivefold and stimulate the development of business tourism in the region, according to Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov. The terminal is scheduled to open in December 2024.
“This will not just be an airport; it will be a congress and exhibition center, allowing us to carve out a niche in business tourism,” Solodov stated. “It will complement traditional tourism, enable us to expand the tourist framework, and fully utilize our existing capacities.”
The governor mentioned that the new complex will have a capacity of up to 5 million people, a significant increase from the current annual passenger traffic of about 1 million travelers.
The airport has already undergone significant renovations, including the reconstruction of passenger areas, aircraft parking spaces, and taxiways. Additionally, a new air traffic control tower, emergency rescue station, diesel boiler plant, and other facilities have been constructed.
The new passenger terminal boasts a unique architecture, designed to resemble a volcanic caldera. The terminal will feature four jet bridges, a parking lot with over 900 spaces, and a hotel with 120 rooms.
Currently, Kamchatka attracts approximately 370,000 tourists annually. Regional authorities aim to increase this number to 1 million passengers per year by 2030.
