The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum Set to Open Next Year

The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi has announced that The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum are slated to open next year. Construction of all “key projects” in the Saadiyat district, located on the eponymous island also known as the “Island of Happiness,” is nearly complete. Alongside these two cultural institutions, the Natural History Museum and the TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi laboratory are also preparing to open their doors.

These new attractions will complement the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which welcomed its five millionth visitor in March, the Manarat Al Saadiyat event space, and the Berklee Abu Dhabi music conservatory.

According to official reports, 76% of the district is currently built. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department, stated that the Saadiyat district will become a hub for creative and cultural exchange. Furthermore, it will boast the highest concentration of cultural institutions in the world.

The Zayed National Museum will “celebrate the history and culture of the UAE and honor the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.” The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will introduce visitors to contemporary art from the 1960s to the present, while TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will feature a 17,000-square-meter space filled with cutting-edge art installations.
