Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection has revealed exciting details about its second ship, the Ilma, which draws design inspiration from Maltese mythology, coastlines, history, and native fauna. Named after the Maltese word for “water,” the Ilma follows Ritz-Carlton’s first ship, Evrima, which debuted in late 2022.
The Ilma, at 790 feet, is considerably larger than the 624-foot Evrima and will accommodate 448 passengers, compared to Evrima’s capacity for 298. This new vessel will introduce a unique dining concept, the Beach House, a restaurant that will serve Peruvian and Pan-Latin cuisine alongside craft cocktails. Designed by the Toronto-based luxury firm Chapi Chapo Designs, this indoor-outdoor venue is intended to evoke a serene coastal atmosphere with stunning 180-degree views.
A defining feature of the Ilma, according to Ritz-Carlton Yacht, is the “fluid link between interior and exterior spaces.” The ship’s spa will offer 11 rooms, including five equipped for outdoor treatments, and will feature three fitness spaces: a Movement Studio, Cycle Studio, and Fitness Studio. Additionally, the Ilma will boast five dining venues, seven bars, and a wine vault.
The ship’s interior design will incorporate neutral tones contrasted with light and dark finishes, aiming to create intimate communal areas that foster connection. “With an aesthetic influenced by superyacht design cues, Ilma’s defining feature is its seamless integration of spaces, fostering a profound connection to the sea,” said Nicola Preece, design director for AD Associates.
London-based architectural and design firm AD Associates, along with lighting designer DPA, have crafted the ship’s interior finishes. The exterior design is the work of Helsinki-based Aivan Design Studio. Each suite will feature floor-to-ceiling windows and a private terrace, with designs that contrast rich textures, warm lighting, and delicate hues. The Ilma will enhance the Marina and Marina Terrace with large Panasonic glass windows to maximize natural light, side doors that open and float above the water, and a hydraulic platform.
The Ilma’s maiden cruise is scheduled to depart from Monte Carlo on September 2 and will arrive in Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, on September 9. This inaugural journey promises to offer guests an unparalleled luxury experience, showcasing the ship’s sophisticated design and cutting-edge amenities.
