“A true Parisian icon recognised worldwide for its unparalleled service standards and exceptional quality, the George V is one of the jewels in the crown of the global hospitality industry. As a key player in this sector, we recognise our responsibility to lead by example for future generations. We take great pride in being the only luxury 5-star hotel in the world to attain dual BREEAM In-Use certification with Excellent rating in both Asset and Management, championing excellence in both social and environmental responsibility,” comments Sarmad Zok, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kingdom Hotel Investments (UK) ltd.
Initiated by BRE (Building Research Establishment) in 2009, BREEAM In-Use is an assessment and certification scheme designed to assess the environmental performance of operational buildings. It evaluates the building’s management, environmental performance, and operations such as construction, installations, fixtures and services. Auditors consider various criteria when granting this coveted certification, including energy, water and waste management, as well as aspects related to health, well-being, resilience, pollution and biodiversity.
The George V has undertaken numerous initiatives to meet its targets, requiring a thorough series of audits and comprehensive efforts throughout the Hotel. Among the initiatives undertaken in recent months are a wide-ranging waste recycling program; ensuring a single-use plastic-free guest experience; upgrading office lighting; implementing an intelligent energy consumption control system in the rooms; enacting measures to reduce water consumption; greening both the roof and outdoor courtyards; and installing bird nesting boxes. These initiatives have been instrumental in enabling the Hotel to achieve this remarkable result.
“We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within our teams, positively influencing the local community and actively mitigating our environmental footprint. This certification acknowledges the collective efforts of all our teams in this endeavour, efforts that have intensified in recent months. Through its commitment, resolve and dedication to both the planet and local community, the George V has solidified its position as a leading player in the global hospitality industry,” explains Jean-Claude Wietzel, Vice President, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris.
