Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today that it will welcome a new boutique luxury resort on Baja Sur peninsula – Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa. The resort will welcome guests with cultural richness, locally inspired culinary and bar concepts, wellness focused spa offerings and panoramic views of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains and Pacific Ocean. It is set to open on April 1, 2024 in the charming coastal town of Todos Santos.
Operated by Highgate, Kimpton Mas Olas is perched on the pristine coastline just north of Los Cabos. Named for the ever-present waves on the resort’s west-facing beach and their representation of the ebb and flow of life as well as the sense of freedom and escape they represent, Kimpton Mas Olas seeks to serve as a haven for both connection and personal exploration.
The resort boasts 103 tranquil guest rooms, including 12 oceanfront villas, spread across 27 buildings representing pueblo life in Mexico. Guest rooms are thoughtfully designed in a contemporary and approachable manner, punctuated by clean lines and organic details of woven palo de arco walls, handmade tiles and light fixtures. Each room is warm and welcoming with many featuring outdoor showers, plunge pools and private roof decks; while each of the villas features its own plunge pool and fire pit – all of which blend into the natural landscape. These architectural characteristics are carried throughout the resort, from its peaceful outdoor pools to its inspiring dining spaces, and are complemented by stunning views of surrounding mountain, ocean and desert landscapes.
Paul Adan, Regional SVP of Development, Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean for IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are delighted with the opening of Kimpton Mas Olas as we continue to elevate and build upon the growth and momentum for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in Mexico. This exciting addition marks our third Kimpton in the market and the second to open so far this year, following Kimpton Virgilio in Mexico City. Kimpton Mas Olas will provide travelers with an inviting escape to immerse in luxurious amenities and inspired cuisine while embarking on locally inspired adventures in beautiful Todos Santos and beyond.”
At the heart of Kimpton Mas Olas’ design is its expansive gardens and natural surroundings. The entire property is immersed in nature with nine interconnected gardens providing a path from the desert to the waves. With this close connection to nature, sustainability is at the core of the resort’s ethos and guest experience. Demonstrating its commitment to being eco-friendly, Kimpton Mas Olas has zero plastics on-site, uses dark sky lighting to prevent light pollution and features a water recycling system. It also exclusively uses electric carts and bikes as transport across the resort. Additionally, the resort pays tribute to the local community by decorating and furnishing the property predominantly with work crafted by skilled local artisans.
Three distinct restaurant and bar experiences highlight the region’s local bounty at Kimpton Mas Olas, weaving organic produce from the resort’s acres of on-site gardens into their menus. Kahal, the resort’s signature restaurant led by Chef Sandro Falbo, offers diners a curated experience emphasizing local flavors, craft cocktails and specialty wines. Kahal – which means water in the language of the indigenous Pericu tribe – also features a sophisticated raw bar where the day’s catch can be selected as well as a sunset deck perfect for taking in the nightly ritual, reflecting on the day and preparing for the next ahead. Botánica, open for dinner and drinks, sits at the heart of the resort’s organic garden and serves up an innovative menu of freshly harvested ingredients and curated cocktails. It isn’t the standard farm-to-table – it’s table in the farm.
Finally, breakfast and lunch spot Centro touts casual Mexican fare with an emphasis on Baja specialties, including a coffee bar highlighting the property’s proprietary blend of locally roasted beans from generational farmers in Chiapas and Veracruz.
The commitment to nature at Kimpton Mas Olas is deeply rooted in the resort’s wellness offerings. Amenities include four outdoor pools, a fitness center, a Pilates studio as well as indoor and outdoor yoga shalas. The crowned jewel of the resort’s amenities is its 25,000 square-foot destination spa, Botánica Spa. With a deeply thoughtful menu of services rooted in the healing nature of plants in the surrounding gardens, visitors to the spa will be able to develop their own bespoke blends of oils and scrubs for treatments at The Apothecary.
Kimpton Mas Olas will also feature beloved and familiar Kimpton perks, including morning coffee and tea service, evening social hour and a “Forgot It? We’ve Got It!” program.
Arash Azarbarzin, Chief Executive Officer at Highgate, said: “The power of travel is the ability for people to experience something new that enhances their life – and Kimpton Mas Olas delivers exactly that. We are honored to welcome this resort into our distinctive luxury and lifestyle portfolio, and look forward to welcoming guests with one-of-a-kind hospitality.”
Located an hour north of Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos is regarded as one of the most enchanting and culturally vibrant destinations on Mexico’s Baja California Sur peninsula where surrounding desert landscapes stand in stark contrast to the Pacific Ocean. Named as the only Pueblo Magico – Magical Town – on the oceanfront by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, Todos Santos is celebrated for its rich culture, compelling architecture, prosperous agriculture and fine artists. Kimpton Mas Olas guests can venture into town to experience the thriving local community, wander its cobblestone streets, explore its art galleries and markets, or indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine.
Kimpton Mas Olas marks the brand’s third property to open in Mexico. Its presence will further expand later this year with the opening of Kimpton Tres Rios Riviera Maya. Kimpton currently has 78 properties open worldwide and more than 54 in the development pipeline, including Budapest, Riyadh and Marbella.
