AEGEAN Launches New Pilot Scholarship Program

AEGEAN offers the opportunity to 120 young aviation enthusiasts, for the next 3 years, to obtain a professional civil aviation license and start their career, as future captains at AEGEAN and Olympic Air by initiating once again a new Pilot Scholarship Program. The first Pilot Scholarship Program launched successfully in 2018, with the first 49 out of the total 100 candidates to have already joined the company whereas 40 more are to follow early 2023.

Revenues for the world’s airline groups more than halved in 2020 and, despite some recovery, ended 2021 still down by over 40% on pre-pandemic levels.

The new AEGEAN Pilot Scholarship Program is addressed to Greek and Cypriot nationals and provides for theoretical and flight training in aircrafts and flight simulators at Global Aviation school, based in Athens, and Egnatia Aviation school, based in Kavala. It is a full-time course with a duration of 17 to 19 months, and lessons are to begin April 1st, 2023.

With this CSR initiative, of a total value of more than 7 million euros, AEGEAN wishes to support young people who dream of becoming pilots, to make their dream come true as the scholarship program is covering most of the total cost required to obtain their license. An extremely important support, since the total cost of a future pilot, including type rating, exceeds 90,000 euros. At the same time, AEGEAN actively supports the capacity building of the entire aviation sector in Greece by helping to develop a new breed of aviation professionals. Following a similar initiative that has been launched recently for Aviation Engineers.

Candidates are required to submit their applications until February 12, 2023, exclusively online and at the relevant application form that can be obtained via AEGEAN website. At the next stage of the selection process, candidates will be invited to a skills test (“Compass” Pilot Aptitude Test), an oral interview and a medical evaluation by the air force medical center.

The final selection of the beneficiaries will be made upon the completion of the evaluation process carried out by the selection committee formed by AEGEAN with the cooperating Schools.
