AEGEAN Airlines Opens New Seasonal Base in Mykonos

The new AEGEAN’s seasonal base in Mykonos was inaugurated today with the flight A3559 from Zurich, and thus enhancing with AEGEAN’s flagship quality, the interconnection of the extremely popular island, with large international markets.

AEGEAN will directly connect Mykonos with 8 international destinations (Milan, Rome, Venice, Naples, Paris, Zurich, Larnaca and Tel Aviv) in 5 countries (Italy, France, Switzerland, Cyprus and Israel) whereas at the same time, is already operating with increased frequencies to and from Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion,  reaching 11 direct interconnections.

Mykonos is the second new base with direct international flights that AEGEAN established for this season, since the respective recent launch in Corfu, following the significant investment program for the upgrade of the regional airports that was completed recently. The new base raises the number of bases that the airline operates in Greece and Cyprus, to 8 in total.

Mr. Konstantinos P. Koukas, Mayor of Mykonos, who attended the arrival of AEGEAN’s first international flight in the airport of Mykonos, said: “AEGEAN’s decision to establish a new base in Mykonos and thus increasing the direct connections with 5 significant countries- highlights  two key facts: AEGEAN’s choice to invest in the brand name “Mykonos” and the dynamics of our island as an attractive destination for significant tourist markets. This development, especially at this critical momentum, underlines the significance of Greek tourism, as well as the great prospects through the substantial and creative cooperation between the State, local communities, and the private sector. I hope this will be a starting point for similar future initiatives and partnerships”.

From her side, Mrs. Marina Spyridaki, AEGEAN Corporate Affairs Manager, pointed out: “Mykonos is one of the most important assets of Greek tourism. That is why we must contribute to the sustainable growth of such destinations, by adding value to the unique profile and needs of its visitors, who have particularly high demands in terms of services. We believe that our presence, with direct international flights to and from the now modern Mykonos airport, contributes to this goal. At the same time, following the inauguration of our operations in Mykonos airport we have ensured privileged terms of access to a fleet of 50 brand new electric cars and scooters, in collaboration with Autohellas Hertz for all our Miles+Bonus Gold members visiting the island. In that way we create environmental friendly transportation solutions during their stay in the island”.
