To increase the population’s transport mobility and develop domestic tourism, the Russian Railways’ Holding has decided for the sixth year in a row to offer a 50% discount to children aged from 10 to 17 for the duration of the school summer holidays.
The discount is available to all children between the ages of 10 and 17 inclusive when booking tickets for general and reserved seat coaches on express and long-distance passenger trains (including branded trains) and Second and Third Class carriages of multi-unit rolling stock (long-distance electric trains) in Russia (excluding express and high-speed trains) departing from 1 June to 31 August 2021.
On trains in transit across other countries, a discount is provided within the territory of the Russian Federation.
In addition, for the second year in a row, children from 10 to 17 years of age inclusive can travel at special prices and in compartment carriages of double-decker trains during the summer holidays. The ticket price will be similar to half the fare on that particular route in a reserved seat carriage.
Discounted tickets can be purchased both at ticket offices and on the official website of Russian Railways, as well as from the RZD Passengers mobile app.
The discount is provided automatically when specifying the “Full” tariff and entering information about children of the corresponding age. The child’s age is taken as that on the day the journey begins.
The 50% discount only applies to the actual fare. The use of a set of bed linen is charged in full. When travelling in double-decker compartment carriages, an additional charge also is made for the set of services provided.
When boarding the train, the passenger must present a ticket and the identity document used to purchase the ticket. For children under the age of 14, a notarised copy of the birth certificate is sufficient.
