Volcano near Grindavik Erupted for the Second Time in 2024

In Iceland, a volcano near the town of Grindavik has erupted for the second time this year, marking the third eruption in the last two months, according to The Independent.

The Meteorological Bureau of Iceland reported that a volcanic eruption is occurring in the southwestern part of the country from a three-kilometer-long fissure north of Grindavik.

The eruption of the volcano Silingarfell began at 6 a.m. local time today, shortly after an intense surge in seismic activity. The new eruption took place approximately in the same location as the previous one in December.

The nearby Blue Lagoon thermal resort, one of Iceland’s major tourist attractions, has been closed following the onset of the eruption, and guests were evacuated to hotels.
