The Ritz-Carlton Opens in Portland

The city of Portland is about to welcome a new pinnacle of luxury and hospitality as The Ritz-Carlton, Portland, announces its highly anticipated opening on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. This grand unveiling marks a significant milestone as the 35-story, 251-room luxury hotel becomes the very first Ritz-Carlton property in the Pacific Northwest. With its prime location in the heart of downtown Portland, this urban oasis promises a transformative experience, offering not only breathtaking panoramic views of the Rose City but also an array of world-class amenities and services.

A Vision of Beauty and Elegance

The Ritz-Carlton, Portland stands tall as a 460-foot crystalline tower, an architectural marvel envisioned by GBD Architects. Its design pays homage to the region’s natural beauty, with a white base inspired by the columnar basalt formations found in the Pacific Northwest. The building further integrates sustainability into its design, featuring cascading stormwater planters that come to life with rainfall. However, the real showstopper is the gem-shaped glass dome crowning the structure. As night falls, the building becomes a glittering jewel, casting a unique and elegant addition to the Portland skyline.

Immersed in Nature, Defined by Luxury

Upon entering this extraordinary 251-room hotel, guests are welcomed by the grandeur of Forest Hall, a stunning lobby that reflects the lush landscape of the Pacific Northwest. The hotel pays homage to Portland’s rich history, with rustic logs bound with copper, a nod to the city’s origins through a historic 1845 coin toss. Maps tracing the journey of Lewis & Clark adorn the space, celebrating the region’s spirit of exploration.

As guests venture deeper into Forest Hall, they are enveloped in natural light filtered through towering, tree-like panels. Cozy corners, designed for comfort and tranquility, offer a relaxing escape. The library lounge features a glowing fireplace framed by backlit Verre églomisé glass, creating an inviting ambiance. Beyond the reception area and the grand staircase lies Meadowrue, an intimate lobby bar with floor-to-ceiling windows. Here, elements of the earth, including indigenous woods, lush green plants, and a mesmerizing light installation, bring the beauty of the outdoors indoors.

A Culinary Adventure Awaits

Meadowrue serves as a daytime coffee lounge, celebrating Portland’s thriving coffee culture and even partnering with Coava Coffee Roasters to craft the exclusive Urban Forest Blend. In the evening, it transforms into a culinary destination, offering light bites, craft cocktails, and bespoke mocktails. The menu highlights local purveyors such as Josephson’s Smokehouse, Olympia Provisions, and Rouge Creamery, underlining the commitment to showcasing the finest local offerings.

Luxury Defined in Every Room

The Ritz-Carlton, Portland boasts 207 luxurious guestrooms and 44 suites, each designed to evoke the essence of Oregon’s forests and misty rivers while paying tribute to the city’s rich history. The spaces are designed to bathe in natural light and are inspired by the striking beauty of Mt. Hood. They can be tailored to accommodate intimate gatherings, grand galas, weddings, corporate events, and everything in between.

A Tribute to Local Artistry and Culture

The Ritz-Carlton, Portland celebrates the city’s prolific makers and rich arts culture. The hotel has collaborated with local and regional artisans, including Pacific Northwest-based Antica Farmacista, to create a bespoke room scent named Rose City, exclusively for the hotel. This scent captures the essence of the city, featuring botanical, majestic, and vibrant notes that evoke the crisp alpine forest and the lushness of a blooming rose.

Throughout the property, an art collection showcases the works of local artists such as David Rice, Rachel Austin, and Kavin Buck, emphasizing the unique relationship between the people of the Pacific Northwest and nature. The collection focuses on earthen textures, eclectic patterns, and diverse materials, underscoring the strong connection between art, culture, and the natural world.
