Tallinn Airport Allows Liquids in Hand Luggage

Starting from April, passengers at Tallinn Airport will no longer be required to remove liquids and laptops from their hand luggage during security checks, thanks to the implementation of new scanners.

The process of replacing security equipment is currently underway, and slightly longer queues are anticipated until the end of March.

Tarvi Pihlakas, the head of aviation security at Tallinn Airport, mentioned on Monday that there are plans to eliminate the need for passengers to pack liquids in separate bags. However, he emphasized that while this rule change applies at Tallinn Airport, it may not be implemented elsewhere.

The new screening devices utilize 3D technology to display the contents of bags and are deemed safe for health.

Due to ongoing reconstruction works, Pihlakas recommends that passengers arrive at the airport two hours before their flight. He noted that the morning rush hour tends to be busier than usual, with queues lasting up to 25 minutes, and sometimes longer.

The cost of replacing the security equipment amounts to €2.8 million.
