Frankfurt Airport Is Closed Today

Frankfurt Airport, the busiest airport in Germany, will be closed to passengers on flights scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024. The reason for the cancellation of departure flights is a strike by airport security staff organized by the German trade union Ver.di, as reported by the airport’s press service.

All passengers departing have been advised to refrain from visiting Frankfurt Airport on March 7 and instead contact the customer support service of the airline or tour operator for flight information.

Additionally, the Ver.di union has called on ground staff at Germany’s largest airline, Lufthansa, to join the strike on March 7 and 8, 2024.

“Due to the planned Ver.di union strike on March 7 and 8, there will be disruptions and cancellations of Lufthansa flights at Frankfurt Airport throughout the day. Passengers are recommended to check the status of their flight before traveling to the airport via the Internet on the website www.lufthansa.com,” cautioned the airport’s press service.

Also, from 2 a.m. on March 7, 2024, another extensive strike by passenger train drivers will commence in Germany, lasting for 35 hours. As a result, there is a possibility of train cancellations and delays throughout the country.

It’s worth noting that these are not the first large-scale strikes by railway workers and airport employees since the beginning of 2024. All of them seek improvements in working conditions, but high inflation and a shortage of workforce in Germany significantly complicate the negotiations.
