Floods and Storm Cause 15 Million Euros Damage in Tsarevo, Bulgaria

According to initial estimates, the damage inflicted by floods and storms to the city of Tsarevo and its surroundings on Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast amounts to 30 million Bulgarian levs (15 million euros), as reported by the Bulgarian National Television on Thursday.

The situation in the affected areas is gradually returning to normal. People of Tsarevo are clearing the streets of mud and debris, and recovery efforts have commenced. Access has been restored to all populated areas in the region, and where floodwaters destroyed bridges, police are on duty.

Authorities are warning residents not to consume untreated water and to refrain from swimming in the sea due to contamination resulting from the natural disaster.

Torrential rains, leading to severe flooding, and a storm hit Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast earlier this week, resulting in several casualties. Friday has been declared a national day of mourning in the country.
