British Airways to Introduce Second Daily Flight between San Diego and London

British Airways has exciting news for travelers between San Diego and London. Starting from April 20, 2024, the airline will be increasing its nonstop service with a second daily flight connecting San Diego International Airport (SAN) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

This expansion comes as a response to the growing demand for travel between these two cities. In recent times, San Diego has shown remarkable resilience in recovering from the pandemic. Notably, the number of passengers traveling between San Diego and Europe has risen by 12 percent compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. San Diego-London routes have seen an even more substantial increase, now standing at over 28 percent higher than in 2019.

Currently, British Airways operates one daily nonstop flight between SAN and LHR (BA273 and BA272). With the addition of the second flight (BA265 and BA264), passengers will have even more options for their travel plans. The new flight will arrive in San Diego at 3:25 PM and depart for London at 5:15 PM. These flights will utilize Boeing 777-200 aircraft for BA264/BA265 and Boeing 787-8 aircraft for BA272/BA273.

The introduction of this second daily flight will significantly boost seat inventory to London in the summer of 2024, increasing it by 47% compared to summer 2023 levels.

Kimberly Becker, President and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, expressed her excitement about the expansion, stating, “The expansion of British Airways flights between London Heathrow Airport and San Diego International Airport opens up a world of possibilities. Leisure and business travelers from San Diego will have added opportunities to explore London and beyond, while giving travelers from the rest of the world increased access to San Diego’s beautiful beaches and year-round sunny climate.”

London Heathrow, one of the world’s busiest airports, serves as a major hub for British Airways, connecting travelers to a wide range of destinations across the globe.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Networks and Alliances, commented on the new flight, saying, “We are delighted to be launching a second daily flight from San Diego, further supporting the growth of business and leisure travel in the city and demonstrating our commitment to the region. This new frequency will offer more options and convenience for our customers and is a welcome addition to our California schedule.”

London, with its rich cultural heritage and diverse offerings, continues to be a top destination for travelers. Visitors can explore world-class museums, historic landmarks, and a thriving culinary scene. With this expansion, travelers from San Diego and London will have even more opportunities to discover the charms of both cities.

San Diego International Airport, in partnership with its carriers, offers nonstop service to 10 international destinations, including London, Munich, Tokyo, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta, making it a convenient gateway for global travelers.
