11 New Counties Added to EU List of Safe Third Countries

The Council of the EU agreed to add 11 new third countries to the EU’s list of epidemiologically safe third countries by the end of this week.

The following ten countries will be added to the list: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Canada, Jordan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Qatar, Saudi Arabia.

Currently, Albania, Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Rwanda, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States are on the list of epidemiologically safe third countries.

The Member States may impose restrictions like a negative Coronavirus test or self-isolation to the residents of these countries, however, the EU recommends to the Member States to reopen their borders to the residents of these countries completely restriction-free.

The Council will continue to review the list every two weeks, in order to add more countries that meet the criteria to be part of the list and exclude those in which the COVID-19 situation deteriorates.
