Philippine Airlines (PAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing for the purchase of 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, with options for five additional aircraft, as part of the carrier’s long-term fleet modernisation and growth strategy.
The agreement was announced during the Farnborough International Airshow and represents Philippine Airlines’ first Boeing aircraft order since 2007. Deliveries are expected between 2031 and 2034, with the first aircraft scheduled to enter the fleet in 2031.
Supporting Long-Haul Growth
The new Boeing 787-10 aircraft will strengthen Philippine Airlines’ medium- and long-haul fleet while improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
The Dreamliner features advanced composite materials, new-generation aerodynamics and more efficient engines, allowing the airline to lower operating costs while supporting its sustainability objectives.
Passengers will also benefit from larger cabin windows, higher cabin humidity, improved air quality, quieter interiors and Philippine Airlines’ latest-generation cabin products.
Celebrating an 80-Year Partnership
Lucio C. Tan III, President and Chief Operating Officer of PAL Holdings, said the investment reflects confidence in the future of both the airline and the aviation industry.
“This investment manifests our confidence in the future of Philippine Airlines and the continued growth of air travel,” he said. “The Boeing 787-10 will strengthen our medium- and long-haul fleet, allowing us to provide an even better travel experience for our customers while improving operational efficiency and supporting our long-term sustainability goals.”
Tan noted that the order coincides with two significant milestones for the airline: its 85th anniversary and 80 years of partnership with Boeing.
First Boeing Order Since 2007
The agreement marks Philippine Airlines’ first direct Boeing aircraft order in nearly two decades and reinforces its long-standing relationship with the U.S. aircraft manufacturer.

Supporting Philippine Industry
Boeing noted that several key suppliers involved in Dreamliner production operate manufacturing facilities in the Philippines, including Moog, Rockwell Collins and JAMCO.
These facilities produce components for the 787 programme, including interior panels, flight control systems and hydraulic equipment, supporting local employment and technology development.
Philippine Airlines currently remains the only airline in the Philippines operating Boeing aircraft on scheduled passenger services, and the new order forms part of its broader strategy to build a more efficient, sustainable and competitive fleet for the future.
