Deutsche Lufthansa AG has appointed Lorenza Maggio as the next Chief Executive Officer of Brussels Airlines, marking a leadership change at the Belgian carrier as it continues its development within the Lufthansa Group.
The appointment by Lufthansa’s Executive Board remains subject to approval by the Board of Directors of SN Airholding. Maggio will also take on the role of Executive Board Representative to the European Commission.
Leadership Transition
Lorenza Maggio will succeed Dorothea von Boxberg, who is leaving Brussels Airlines at her own request with effect from 31 August 2026 after several years with the Lufthansa Group.
The exact date for Maggio’s transition from Rome to Brussels will be announced at a later stage.
Experienced Lufthansa Group Executive
Maggio, 48, is currently a member of the Board of Directors of ITA Airways, where she has served as Chief Strategy and Integration Officer since January 2025. In that role, she has been responsible for overseeing ITA Airways’ integration into the Lufthansa Group while guiding the airline’s strategic development.
Before joining ITA Airways, Maggio served as Vice President Sales for Lufthansa Group’s network airlines across Europe (excluding home markets), the Middle East and Africa.
She has also held senior leadership positions at Eurowings, where she was responsible for brand and customer strategy, and previously served as Managing Director of a subsidiary within the LSG Group.
Strengthening Brussels Airlines
“Lorenza Maggio is a highly accomplished and internationally experienced airline executive. She knows the industry and our group from various leadership positions at different companies,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SN Airholding and Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group.
“With her proven expertise, she will lead Brussels Airlines as an integrated hub airline within the Lufthansa Group. I am particularly pleased that we were able to appoint a successor from within our own ranks, following Dorothea von Boxberg, whom I wish to thank sincerely for her many years of successful service to the Lufthansa Group.”
The appointment reflects Lufthansa Group’s strategy of promoting experienced internal executives to key leadership positions as it continues integrating its European airline portfolio.
