IHG Hotels & Resorts has expanded its luxury lifestyle portfolio in Mexico with the opening of Kimpton El Castelar, a 34-room boutique hotel in the heart of Mexico City’s prestigious Polanco district.
Located at Emilio Castelar 107 in the Polanquito neighborhood, the new hotel occupies the restored Roel Building, a historic landmark designed by renowned Mexican architect Francisco J. Serrano and originally opened in 1940 during the Mexican Art Nouveau period.
Situated just steps from Avenida Presidente Masaryk, Lincoln Park, Chapultepec Castle, the National Auditorium and the National Museum of Anthropology, Kimpton El Castelar is designed to offer guests an immersive stay in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
Historic Architecture Meets Contemporary Design
The boutique hotel blends the building’s historic character with contemporary Mexican design. Interiors feature bespoke furniture crafted in Mexico, original works by local artists and natural materials including terracotta, warm metals, stone finishes and patterned cement tiles inspired by traditional Mexican ceramics.
Many guest rooms include private outdoor terraces overlooking the historic façades, while most also feature spacious soaking tubs. Additional amenities include a rooftop swimming pool, complimentary bicycles and yoga mats in every room.
“Kimpton El Castelar is an authentic addition to the spirit of Mexico City,” said Alejandro Gallegos, General Manager of Kimpton El Castelar. “Our intention is for guests to use the hotel as their home base as they discover the hidden treasures of the trendy Polanquito neighborhood.”
Signature Kimpton Guest Experiences
Guests can enjoy several signature Kimpton experiences, including the daily Kimpton Kickstart programme with complimentary coffee and premium teas each morning, as well as the brand’s popular evening Social Hour featuring complimentary wine, beer and chef-prepared light bites.
The hotel is also pet-friendly, welcoming pets of all sizes at no additional charge, while communal spaces have been designed to encourage social interaction and connection among travellers.
Strengthening Kimpton’s Presence in Mexico
The opening marks another milestone in Kimpton’s continued expansion across Mexico and Latin America. Kimpton El Castelar joins Kimpton Virgilio, which opened in nearby Polanco in 2024, giving the brand two boutique hotels housed in restored historic apartment buildings within the same district.
“As Kimpton hotels continue to grow in our Mexico and Latin America region, we carry a true sense of excitement with us,” said Leanne Harwood, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Luxury & Lifestyle for IHG Hotels & Resorts. “Our goal with each of our hotel openings is to thoughtfully integrate into the community, and I’m confident Kimpton El Castelar will be locally loved and inspire enchantment for travellers from around the world.”
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants now operates 87 hotels globally and has an additional 67 properties in its development pipeline as the luxury lifestyle brand continues its international expansion.
