Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) has welcomed a new transatlantic connection as Air Canada launched nonstop flights between Berlin and Montréal, strengthening air links between Germany and Canada.
The seasonal service began on July 6 and operates three times a week—on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays—through September 6. The route also provides convenient onward connections through Air Canada’s Montréal hub to destinations across Canada, the United States and the wider North American network.
Airbus A321XLR to Debut on German Long-Haul Route
The inaugural flight was operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. However, from July 19, Air Canada will deploy the Airbus A321XLR on the route, marking the first scheduled long-haul service in Germany to use the airline’s newest narrow-body aircraft.
The Airbus A321XLR is configured with 182 seats, including 14 in Business Class and 168 in Economy Class. The flight from Berlin to Montréal takes approximately 8 hours and 40 minutes, while the westbound return journey is around one hour shorter.
Service Expands in Summer 2027
The Berlin–Montréal route has already been confirmed for the 2027 summer season. Air Canada plans to increase the frequency to four weekly flights, operating from early June through mid-October.
The new route further expands BER’s long-haul network while providing travelers with improved access to Air Canada’s extensive North American route system.
Strengthening Business and Tourism Links
Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, said the new service not only adds an attractive Canadian destination but also demonstrates how next-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A321XLR can make long-haul operations more efficient and sustainable.
Rocky Lo, Managing Director International Sales at Air Canada, described the route as an important milestone for the airline’s expanding transatlantic network, highlighting Montréal’s role as one of Air Canada’s largest hubs with seamless onward connections throughout North America.
Benefits for Regional Economy
Tourism and business organizations welcomed the new route, noting its potential to boost visitor numbers and strengthen commercial ties between Berlin and Canada. Officials highlighted opportunities for collaboration in industries including artificial intelligence, gaming, aerospace, deep technology and the creative sectors.
According to Brandenburg’s chambers of commerce, Canada remains one of the region’s key trading partners, with bilateral trade worth approximately €1.2 billion and exports continuing to grow. The new nonstop service is expected to support both tourism and long-term economic cooperation between the two regions.
