Hilton has expanded its presence in Thailand with the opening of Kahavadi Chiang Rai, Curio Collection by Hilton, a 167-room riverside hotel inspired by the cultural heritage and merchant history of Northern Thailand.
Located along the banks of the Mae Kok River, approximately 10 minutes from Chiang Rai city center, the hotel offers convenient access to some of the province’s most celebrated attractions, including Wat Rong Suea Ten (the Blue Temple), Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple), Doi Mae Salong, Phu Chi Fa, the Golden Triangle, and Doi Tung.
Lanna-Inspired Design
Kahavadi Chiang Rai draws inspiration from the elegant merchant houses that once lined Northern Thailand’s river trading routes. Designed as a contemporary interpretation of traditional Lanna architecture, the hotel combines white façades, graceful arches, timber shutters, woven rattan, natural stone, and handcrafted wood detailing to create a modern riverside retreat rooted in local heritage.
Artwork by artists from Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai is displayed throughout the property, while ceramics crafted by Huenpatima Ceramics in neighboring Phayao further celebrate Northern Thailand’s creative traditions.
The hotel offers 167 guestrooms and suites across seven accommodation categories, including Deluxe Rooms, Garden Terrace Rooms, Pool Access Rooms, Accessible Rooms, One-Bedroom Suites, and the 225-square-meter Two-Bedroom Kahavadi Family Suite. Many rooms overlook landscaped gardens, swimming pools, or the Mae Kok River, while locally blended tea from Wa Wee Hill served in handcrafted ceramics introduces guests to regional flavors.
Dining Inspired by Northern Thailand
The hotel’s culinary program reflects Chiang Rai’s historic trade routes and regional cuisine. Larderley serves Thai, Asian, and international dishes throughout the day, inspired by the communal tradition of sharing meals. Riverside restaurant Tasabiang showcases refined Northern Thai cuisine prepared with seasonal local ingredients, while The Ledger lounge and bar offers cocktails, beverages, and small plates inspired by the exchange of flavors that shaped the region’s trading history.
Wellness and Local Experiences
Guests can relax at the hotel’s outdoor swimming pools, 24-hour fitness center, or eForea Spa, where treatments incorporate traditional Northern Thai healing practices. Signature therapies include Tok Sen, an ancient massage technique using rhythmic wooden tapping to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation.
The property also offers a variety of cultural experiences, including guided cycling tours to nearby temples for traditional alms-giving ceremonies, Lanna cooking classes, garden tours, and visits to local markets that highlight Northern Thailand’s culinary traditions.
Meetings and Events
Kahavadi Chiang Rai features approximately 1,980 square meters of meeting and event space across six venues. Facilities include a 1,762-square-meter riverside lawn and ballroom alongside flexible meeting rooms suitable for conferences, weddings, and private celebrations.
The opening strengthens Hilton’s expansion across Thailand and Southeast Asia while adding another destination to the Curio Collection by Hilton portfolio following the recent debut of KROMO Bangkok, Curio Collection by Hilton.
