Marriott International has expanded its luxury footprint in China with the opening of The Dali EDITION, a new lifestyle hotel overlooking Erhai Lake and the peaks of Cangshan Mountain in Yunnan Province.
The opening brings the EDITION brand to one of Southwest China’s most celebrated destinations, known for its dramatic landscapes, rich cultural heritage and centuries of trade and artistic exchange. Located on the slopes of Cangshan Mountain at an elevation of 2,090 metres, the property offers easy access to Dali Old Town, the Three Pagodas and the region’s most famous natural attractions.
Dali has become increasingly popular with domestic and international travellers seeking experiences beyond China’s major gateway cities, combining historic architecture, mountain scenery and a thriving creative community.
A New Luxury Retreat In Yunnan
The Dali EDITION features 151 rooms, suites and private villas, many designed to showcase uninterrupted views of Erhai Lake, Cangshan Mountain and landscaped gardens.
The hotel was designed by Shenzhen Cheng Chung Design, drawing inspiration from local materials and traditional craftsmanship. A palette of aged timber, natural stone and locally sourced elements creates a contemporary interpretation of Dali’s architectural heritage.
Among the accommodation options are private pool villas and a Presidential Suite spanning 250 square metres, complete with an indoor pool, private courtyard and panoramic outdoor terrace.
Dining Inspired By The Flavours Of Yunnan
The hotel’s culinary programme focuses on seasonal ingredients and regional flavours, with produce sourced from on-site gardens and orchards.
Market at EDITION serves all-day dining with a farm-to-table approach, while KUSHO specialises in wood-fired cuisine. The Lobby Bar acts as a social gathering space throughout the day, while a dedicated Chinese restaurant incorporates elements of traditional Bai culture and architecture.
A Tea House experience introduces visitors to Yunnan’s renowned tea traditions, allowing guests to participate in tea-making rituals while learning about one of the region’s most important cultural exports.
Wellness And Outdoor Experiences
The property includes a spa with private treatment rooms, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, fitness facilities and an indoor-outdoor yoga terrace positioned to take advantage of the mountain views.
Experiences have been developed to connect guests with the surrounding landscape, ranging from guided mushroom foraging and tea ceremonies to sunrise runs and sound bath sessions inspired by local traditions.
Meeting and event facilities include a Grand Ballroom, outdoor event lawn and several flexible meeting spaces designed for corporate gatherings, celebrations and destination events.
EDITION Continues China Expansion
The Dali EDITION becomes the third EDITION property in Greater China, reflecting growing demand for luxury hotels that combine contemporary design with a strong sense of place.
By blending modern hospitality with Dali’s unique cultural and natural heritage, the new hotel aims to position itself as a gateway to one of China’s most distinctive travel destinations while strengthening Marriott’s presence in the country’s premium travel market.
