The Lux Collective has unveiled LUX* Lake Kivu, a new luxury resort on the shores of Rwanda’s Lake Kivu, strengthening the country’s growing reputation as a destination for high-end nature, wellness and adventure tourism.
Located in Rwanda’s western region, the 14-key property offers an intimate lakeside retreat overlooking one of Africa’s Great Lakes, combining contemporary hospitality with immersive experiences inspired by the surrounding landscape, wildlife and local culture.
The opening forms part of The Lux Collective’s broader investment in Rwanda’s tourism sector and complements the recent launch of SALT of Akagera, creating new luxury options for travellers exploring the country’s diverse natural attractions.
A luxury escape overlooking Lake Kivu
Designed around the principles of slow travel and meaningful connection, LUX* Lake Kivu features a collection of suites and a private villa positioned to maximise panoramic views of the lake and surrounding hills.
The resort has been created as a place for relaxation and restoration, with contemporary interiors, wellness-focused facilities and direct access to one of Rwanda’s most scenic destinations.
Lake Kivu is known for its tranquil waters, rich biodiversity and birdlife, making it a popular destination for travellers seeking a more relaxed alternative to traditional safari experiences.
Experiences inspired by nature and culture
The resort offers a series of signature experiences designed to showcase the natural and cultural heritage of the region.
One of the highlights is the Napoleon Trek, a guided hike to Napoleon Island at sunrise or sunset, where visitors can witness thousands of fruit bats taking flight against the backdrop of Lake Kivu.
The Island Run experience takes guests by private boat to several islands across the lake, including Blue Monkey Island and Swimming Cows Island, offering opportunities to explore local wildlife and unique landscapes.
For travellers seeking Rwanda’s most iconic wildlife encounter, The Gorilla Morning provides a full-day excursion to Volcanoes National Park, where visitors can trek through rainforest habitats to observe endangered mountain gorillas.
The resort also celebrates Rwanda’s internationally recognised coffee industry through its From Cherry to Cup experience, which follows the journey of coffee from plantation to tasting while connecting guests with local producers and communities.
Wellness and lakeside dining
Wellbeing plays a central role in the guest experience at LUX* Lake Kivu.
The resort features sunrise yoga sessions overlooking the lake and the LUX* ME Spa, offering treatments designed to support relaxation and renewal.
Dining options include Cleo, an international restaurant showcasing contemporary cuisine, Riva, a lakeside venue highlighting local flavours, and Maison LUX* café and bar, which serves coffee, refreshments and light bites throughout the day.
Together, the culinary and wellness experiences create a holistic approach to luxury travel that reflects the resort’s connection to its surroundings.
Supporting Rwanda’s tourism ambitions
Positioned near several of Rwanda’s key attractions, including Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe Forest, LUX* Lake Kivu serves both as a standalone destination and a gateway for exploring the country’s western tourism corridor.
The property operates under The Lux Collective’s Circle of Care sustainability framework, focusing on responsible tourism practices, local procurement, conservation awareness and community development.
LUX* Lake Kivu and SALT of Akagera represent the beginning of a wider luxury tourism circuit planned across Rwanda. The Lux Collective has confirmed three additional developments targeted for 2028 in Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe National Park and Akagera National Park, further strengthening Rwanda’s position in the global luxury travel market.
