TUI Launches First Direct Birmingham Flights To The Gambia For Winter Sun Escapes

TUI is launching its first-ever direct flights from Birmingham Airport to Banjul in The Gambia, giving Midlands travellers a new low-cost winter sun option from November 2026.

The new weekly route will connect Birmingham directly with the West African destination in approximately six hours, offering an alternative to longer winter escapes to the Caribbean or Southeast Asia.

New Direct Flights Start In November 2026

The service is scheduled to begin on 2 November 2026 and will operate every Monday throughout the winter season.

The new route expands TUI’s growing Gambia programme, which already includes departures from London Gatwick and Manchester airports.

TUI said package holiday prices will start from £800 per person, including flights, accommodation, transfers, luggage and all-inclusive food and drinks.

The Gambia Growing As Winter Sun Destination

With temperatures regularly reaching around 30°C between November and April, The Gambia has become increasingly popular among British travellers searching for affordable winter sunshine.

The destination is known for its long sandy beaches, warm Atlantic waters and lively coastal resort areas, particularly around the Senegambia Strip.

Beach bars, restaurants and live music venues have helped strengthen the country’s appeal as an alternative winter holiday destination outside Europe.

TUI Highlights Value And Shorter Flight Times

TUI UK Commercial Director Chris Logan said demand for winter sun holidays offering value and shorter travel times continues to grow.

He said destinations such as The Gambia are attracting increasing interest because travellers can reach guaranteed sunshine without ultra-long-haul flights.

TUI also highlighted the convenience of its package holiday offering, which combines flights, accommodation, transfers and all-inclusive services into one booking.

Birmingham Airport Welcomes Return Of Route

Birmingham Airport Chief Commercial Officer Matt Hazelwood said the return of direct flights to The Gambia strengthens the airport’s winter leisure network.

He described the destination as an accessible winter getaway featuring beaches, nature reserves and wildlife experiences within a relatively short flight time from the UK.

The launch reflects broader demand among British holidaymakers for affordable winter destinations combining sunshine, all-inclusive packages and convenient regional airport departures.
