Ascott is expanding its resort portfolio in Northern Europe with the signing of Oakwood Nuuksio Helsinki, a new nature-focused resort set to open near Finland’s renowned Nuuksio National Park.
Located just 40 minutes from central Helsinki and 30 minutes from Helsinki Airport, the property will offer guests a unique blend of wilderness experiences, wellness facilities and modern hospitality within easy reach of the Finnish capital.
A Retreat Surrounded by Nature
The resort will sit on the edge of Nuuksio National Park, a protected area spanning more than 5,300 hectares of forests, lakes and hiking trails.
The location is expected to appeal to leisure travelers seeking outdoor adventures as well as corporate groups looking for wellness-oriented retreats away from the city.
Despite its tranquil setting, the resort will remain conveniently connected to Helsinki and nearby Espoo, Finland’s second-largest city.
Major Expansion Planned
The project involves the complete renovation and repositioning of an existing 65-room hotel under the Oakwood brand.
A new wing featuring 160 additional guestrooms will also be constructed, bringing the total accommodation inventory to 225 rooms.
The signing agreement between Ascott and Hotel Nuuksio Ltd reflects the hospitality group’s continued focus on expanding its presence in high-demand leisure destinations worldwide.
Designed for Bleisure Travelers
Oakwood Nuuksio Helsinki will target the growing “bleisure” segment, combining business and leisure travel through flexible accommodation, wellness experiences and extensive meeting facilities.
The resort will feature an all-day dining restaurant, private Nordic-inspired dining experiences, an indoor swimming pool, fitness center and approximately 1,350 square meters of meeting and event space.
Conference facilities are expected to strengthen the property’s appeal as a corporate retreat destination while allowing guests to combine work commitments with outdoor activities and wellness experiences.
New Sauna World and Nordic Wellness Experiences
A centerpiece of the redevelopment will be the creation of a lakeside “Sauna World,” featuring traditional Finnish saunas alongside hot and cold-water pools overlooking the surrounding natural landscape.
The wellness offering has been designed around Finland’s changing seasons and the growing global demand for nature-based travel experiences.
Guests will be able to participate in activities ranging from snow hiking and cross-country skiing during winter to forest yoga, canoeing, foraging excursions, ice diving and survival skills training throughout the year.
Growing Demand for Nordic Destinations
Ascott said the project aligns with increasing international interest in Finland as travelers seek cooler-climate destinations, outdoor adventures and authentic Nordic experiences.
The company has recently expanded its resort portfolio through projects across Europe and Asia, including destinations such as Bali, Phuket, Phu Quoc, Seville and Vienna.
Upon completion, Oakwood Nuuksio Helsinki is expected to become one of Finland’s leading premium resort and conference destinations, combining contemporary accommodation, wellness-focused facilities and immersive access to one of the country’s most celebrated natural landscapes.
