Air Canada has officially resumed scheduled passenger flights between Toronto and Shanghai for the first time since 2020, restoring one of Canada’s most important long-haul links to Asia.
The airline operated its first commercial flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Wednesday, marking the return of direct connectivity after a five-year suspension.
Four Weekly Flights Return Between Canada And China
The restored route will operate year-round with four weekly flights in each direction.
The service reconnects Canada’s largest city with China’s financial hub and represents one of the longest routes currently operated by Air Canada.
The return of the route also strengthens Toronto’s position as North America’s key gateway for transpacific travel and business connections.
Ultra-Long-Haul Operations Continue Expanding
The Toronto-Shanghai service joins Air Canada’s growing portfolio of ultra-long-haul routes as airlines continue rebuilding intercontinental networks.
Operating flights exceeding 11,000 kilometers, the route ranks among Air Canada’s longest scheduled services and requires widebody aircraft capable of extended long-haul operations.
The airline’s decision to restore the route reflects improving demand for transpacific travel and continued recovery across international aviation markets.
