Marriott Brings Le Méridien To Whitsundays With Major Lindeman Island Revival

Marriott International is expanding its luxury resort footprint in Australia after signing an agreement that will bring the Le Méridien brand to Lindeman Island, reviving one of Queensland’s historic island resorts after more than a decade of closure.

The redevelopment marks a major milestone for the Whitsundays tourism market and forms part of a wider luxury repositioning strategy aimed at attracting both domestic and international travelers.

The resort is expected to reopen in late 2027 following a large-scale redevelopment designed to transform the former property into a premium lifestyle destination.

Luxury Resort Returns After More Than A Decade

The Lindeman Island property originally closed in 2012 and has remained inactive while redevelopment plans evolved.

The new project includes a major investment program that aims to reposition the resort within the premium hospitality market.

Developers say the resort will blend modern design, hospitality experiences and the natural environment surrounding the island.

The arrival of Le Méridien also marks the brand’s first entry into Queensland.

Redeveloped Resort Will Feature Premium Facilities

Plans for the new resort include more than 200 guestrooms alongside luxury suites and extensive leisure facilities.

Guests are expected to have access to restaurants, spa facilities, event spaces, recreational activities and family-focused amenities.

Developers are positioning the property as a full-scale island destination rather than a traditional resort operation.

Additional recreational facilities are expected to include water sports, wellness experiences and activity programs.

Marriott And Partners Expand Australian Growth Strategy

The agreement represents the first collaboration between Marriott International and La Vie Hotels & Resorts while expanding Marriott’s presence within Australia’s resort sector.

Executives say access to Marriott’s global distribution systems and loyalty ecosystem should help accelerate international awareness of the destination.

The project also highlights growing investment across Australia’s luxury resort market as operators increasingly target experiential and lifestyle-focused travel demand.

When completed, the redevelopment is expected to position Lindeman Island once again among Australia’s major island resort destinations while expanding Marriott’s premium portfolio in the region.
