BETA Technologies has launched a new phase of electric aviation testing in Europe after beginning demonstration flights across Belgium and the wider Benelux region using its fully electric cargo aircraft.
The company’s Alia CX300 aircraft has arrived in Belgium as part of a broader programme designed to evaluate how electric aircraft could operate across short-haul cargo networks.
The flights form part of a wider European tour aimed at demonstrating the operational capabilities of zero-emission aviation technologies.
Electric Cargo Aircraft Begins Operations From Belgium
Ostend-Bruges Airport welcomed the Alia CX300 electric aircraft as part of ongoing demonstrations taking place across multiple European locations.
The aircraft arrived from Rotterdam before beginning local demonstration activity from Belgium.
Airport officials described the arrival as an important step for sustainable aviation development as airports increasingly explore low-emission operational models.
The aircraft’s appearance in Belgium follows previous operations across airports in the Netherlands and additional locations elsewhere in Europe.
Benelux Tour Focuses On Short-Haul Cargo Potential
The demonstration programme is centered around freight-only operations across shorter routes where electric aviation is currently viewed as potentially most viable.
Previous flights have already included operations through multiple regional airports across the Netherlands and surrounding markets.
Developers believe shorter sectors may provide one of the earliest large-scale commercial opportunities for electric aviation because of lower energy requirements and simplified operational demands.
The flights are intended to simulate realistic cargo operations rather than purely technical demonstrations.
Programme Will Evaluate Real-World Cargo Operations
The testing programme aims to assess how electric aircraft could support transportation of freight, mail and essential supplies including medical shipments.
Developers are collecting operational data covering aircraft reliability, turnaround performance, operational efficiency and real-world route performance.
Electric aviation companies increasingly view cargo services as an important entry point before larger passenger operations become commercially viable.
The demonstrations highlight growing efforts across Europe to evaluate whether electric aircraft can become practical solutions for regional connectivity and sustainable aviation goals.
