Copenhagen Airport Passenger Numbers Surge As Travel Demand Remains Strong

Copenhagen Airport continued its strong growth trajectory in November after handling 2.42 million passengers, driven by rising transfer traffic, expanding long-haul connectivity and sustained demand for both leisure and business travel.

The latest figures underline Copenhagen’s growing role as the Nordic region’s leading aviation hub as airlines continue increasing capacity across Europe, Asia and long-haul markets.

Airport officials say passenger growth remains broad-based, with increases recorded across domestic travelers, transfer passengers and international visitors.

Passenger Traffic Climbs As Winter Travel Demand Remains Strong

Passenger numbers during November increased by 11 percent compared with the same period a year earlier as travelers continued booking both leisure and international trips.

Routes to warmer European destinations remained particularly popular during the month, while long-haul travel also continued strengthening.

London maintained its position as Copenhagen’s busiest destination, while Spanish cities including Barcelona, Malaga, Gran Canaria and Madrid attracted significant demand.

Airport executives say this winter schedule is the largest in Copenhagen Airport’s history, providing travelers with more route options than ever before.

Transfer Traffic Growth Strengthens Copenhagen’s Hub Position

One of the strongest areas of growth came from transfer traffic, with connecting passenger numbers increasing by 37 percent year over year.

Transfer travelers now account for approximately one quarter of all passengers passing through the airport.

Airport officials say strong transfer traffic supports wider connectivity by making additional routes economically viable and strengthening access to international markets.

The majority of connecting travelers currently originate from Denmark, Sweden and Norway, alongside growing numbers from Germany, Italy and Poland.

Domestic Travel And Long-Haul Routes Continue Expanding

Domestic passenger traffic also experienced strong growth with traveler numbers increasing by 23 percent compared with the previous year.

Growth has been particularly strong on routes connecting Copenhagen with Aalborg and Billund while supporting onward international connectivity.

Long-haul travel also contributed significantly to passenger growth as airlines expanded services across Asia and the Middle East.

Passenger numbers to Asian destinations increased by 23 percent while Middle Eastern routes recorded growth of 14 percent.

New Asia Routes Continue Expanding Airport Network

The airport’s winter programme now includes an increasing number of Asian destinations, reflecting rising demand for longer-distance travel.

Recent additions include routes to Mumbai and Seoul while services to destinations including Shanghai and Japan continue attracting strong demand.

Further expansion is expected as airlines continue adding new international services, including the first-ever direct connection between Denmark and Vietnam.

Airport executives say expanding long-haul connectivity remains central to maintaining Copenhagen’s role as the largest international aviation hub in the Nordic region.
